want to share with you a project small DIY I am quite proud of. Some time ago there was a very popular link on Pinterest about making your own lemon plant from scratch. And let me say I am very proud to tell you I have done just that! I simply followed the picture tutorial found here and am now a proud owner of two small plants.
I started with four seeds from a Lemon. To be honest I have no idea what type of lemon I used (although I have read one should use Meyer organic lemons). I soaked the seeds for a couple of days and then cut off the squishy protective layer. I put them between two layers of the thicker kitchen tissues, and soaked them. I placed them in a plastic ziplock bag, taped them to the window and waited.
When they all had sprouted I removed them into a vase with soil (again, no idea what kind). Then I placed them in the kitchen window sill.
I watered it when I felt like it, and I started seeing two small sprouts with leaves coming up. I then left two weeks on holiday to Spain and when I came back they had really grown. Now they are starting to get “big” and I am super excited to have grown something from a seed!
That is cool! I’m going to try it. I love gardening and watching things sprout, it’s so rewarding
I came over from Problogger, you sounded so sweet in your reply to Darren’s post. I wanted to come by and support you. You have an awesome blog, keep it up!
Thank you
It is super rewarding! And thank you for your support its so sweet of you
I need to do this too! I got an avocado seed to grow once and my then toddler killed it. I haven’t been able to get any to grow since then…maybe I’ll try lemons instead!
I might have to try the avocado seed once.. I just love watching my little plant grow
I’ve been wanting to start growing some food at home recently but I’m really bad at keeping plants alive! This seems like something I might be able to handle though! Did you have anyone watering it while you were away for 2 weeks?
I am also so bad at keeping plants alive. I have killed them all (except this one and a plant I have had for two years).
I did not have anyone watering it, so I just guess this plant does not need a lot of water… Which I guess makes it perfect for us plant killers
WoW! that’s awesome!! I grow my own herbs in a small patio.
Thank you
I really want to start growning my own herbs too some day! Did you grow these from seeds or did you buy them ?
I recently found my green thumb through another fellow blogger ~~~> http://www.inspiredbybeatriceclay.com and I’ve been in love ever since. I will try this soon!
