Today I am going to show you a really simple maxi dress tutorial. I used inspiration from Cation Design because it is such an easy tutorial to follow. You should really go check out her post for her super easy to follow tutorial.
I am amazed on how anyone can make something that simple. I used a slightly different approach to my dress as well as creating a braid for the straps.
How to make a simple maxi dress
I started by cutting two pieces of fabric, the length of the fabric (150) x 75 cm.
Then I pinned the sides together and sew them about 20 cm from the top.
The top of the dress I double-folded and sewed with a twin-needle stitch. If you don’t have a twin needle for your machine you could just sew two straight seams with about half a cm gap between. The width of the fold depends on what you are going to be using for string. Since I had a braid made from the remainder of the fabric, I used this as a guide.
Smart tips for anyone who wants to tread fabric, add a needle to the end of the ribbon or braid to make it easer to get through the fabric. When this is done in the front and back sew the two ends together and move them to the middle of the back.
We had dinner at our grandparents house yesterday, and before we left we took some photos for the blog in their garden. Whats the fun in making stuff if you can’t have a photoshoot right?
I am also making this dress for my friend, my little sister and my cousin! They all loved the dress so much they wanted their own! HOW FUN IS THAT?

I think that would be such a great idea! You could also sew an elastic band instead of using the belt if that would be more comforable for you 🙂
