Today I am going to be telling you a story. It is something that happened to me yesterday. It really did open my eyes quite a bit.
People tend to be quite passive. For example if they see a dog running around without an owner they will just ignore it. Yesterday I decided to take an active role.
I had come home from work and was walking my dog. We were going to a small valley park next to where I live. There is usually not people here so dog owners tend to let their dogs run loose. When I came to the middle of the slope I saw a dog at the bottom of it. It was a German Shepherd. My dog, Cosmo, started barking and the other dog got scared and walked around us back up to the street. I tied my dog to the bench and tried to get the other dog to come to me. She looked quite scared and insecure.
At that moment a lady walked by. She informed me that she had seen the dog around 9 am that morning. It was probably about 3-3.30 pm at that time. Which meant the dog had been loose for at least 6 hours and probably even longer. I took my phone out and found the animal shelter website. I called the police number that stood there and told the officer about the dog.
At that point the dog had disappeared. I then walked down to the valley park again. A few minutes after the owner called me. The dog had been missing for 9 hours. He asked if I still had the dog. I told him no. He was sad that no one had gotten hold of the dog and told me to call if I saw her again. He would be there in about half an hour. I then changed my direction and walked back up to the street. I went looking for about 5 minutes and asked a couple of people if they had seen the dog. I then got my car keys and went looking for the dog.
I drove past a lady and asked her if she had seen the dog. She said she might have, but was not sure. She told me the direction where she thought it had gone. I found it. I tried to lure her to me, but she kept walking away. So I decided just to follow her in my car. If I could not catch her, I would at least want to know where she was. I was keeping in touch with her owner on my phone. Then the owner came driving, stopped the car and called on the dog. She was finally caught.
I do not remember the last time I was that happy. The owner was also feeling great. He asked me if he owed me something. I said no. We did not get to talk more because the bus came behind me and I had to keep driving.
One thing I do hope is that he will “Pay It Forward”.
I hope that you will also be able to help someone.Become someones hero. Save someones day. Stop being passive and start taking action!
